Eat!

On this page I will be posting pictures of meals I have and restaurants that I visit during my stay. I will be using the Happy Cow app to discover new vegan and vegetarian friendly options!

What is Happy Cow?

Happy Cow describes itself as "a healthy eating guide founded in 1999 as a public service to assist travelers and people everywhere to find plant-based / vegan options and healthy food." Essentially, it's like a healthier, happier and less angsty version of Yelp that creates a community by allowing people to review vegetarian and vegan businesses, restaurants and markets. It also allows you to add a business, so if you know about a vegetarian or vegan restaurant that isn't on the map, you can add it pretty easily. I love Happy Cow, and I like to use it when I'm traveling or in an unfamiliar area. It's trustworthy and never done me wrong. I highly recommend downloading the app if you're a vegetarian/vegan!

Vegan Food Finds

Street Organics

Takapuna, New Zealand

The first restaurant on my list is Street Organics. Located by Takapuna Beach in Auckland, this place has a lot of vegan options and the food is really good! They also have a really extensive coffee menu with a lot of unique drinks I'd never seen before. I ordered the pancakes, but everything on the menu sounded amazing (which is rare for me to say, because I'm kind of picky). Lots of their entrees have substitutes if there's meat, so virtually every menu item can be vegan!

The Living Room

Devonport, New Zealand

Tucked into a little strip of restaurants along Victoria Road, I discovered The Living Room from Happy Cow and it's rave reviews. Like the name entails, the restaurant feels very homey, and it's atmosphere is similar to that of a coffee shop or cafe. I ordered the "Power Porridge" which were oats with dates, candied walnuts and coconut yogurt. It was incredible and super filling.

Gorilla Kitchen

Eden Terrace, New Zealand

If you ever need some help convincing your friends or family to become vegan - or simply just want to prove those people that say "But (insert food here) can't be made vegan!" then take them here! Gorilla Kitchen is absolutely amazing... you don't even think about the food being good "for vegan food" when you see it- it's just really good food in general. They are also sustainable and working towards becoming zero waste, so that's a plus! I definitely recommend getting the pancakes.
